The Space Between Your Ears

Main Auditorium, Gala Theatre

A contemporary circus theatre work exploring the chemistry of connection.

The Space Between Your Ears sits inside the human brain, inside impulse, reward, attachment and the quiet hunger to be seen. Created and performed by the young artists of Cirko Norda, the work draws on neuroscience and lived experience to ask how dopamine shapes our behaviour, and what happens when stimulation replaces intimacy.

Through ensemble acrobatics, aerial work and physical theatre, the cast trace the tension between independence and interdependence. Patterns repeat and escalate. Momentum builds. Attention fragments. Proximity becomes both risk and remedy.

The choreography mirrors neural pathways: impulses fire, habits form, feedback loops tighten. The performers negotiate trust in real time — balancing, counterbalancing, yielding weight — revealing connection as something physical, negotiated and necessary.

The piece reflects on a generation raised on instant reward systems while still wired for community. It questions what we are reaching for when we seek approval, distraction or constant input, and whether shared breath, shared weight and shared presence offer a different kind of return.

Intelligent, embodied and youth-led, The Space Between Your Ears is a rigorous and poetic investigation into how we are wired, and why we need real human connection.

Following multiple 5-star fringe reviews and recognition for Outstanding Youth Theatre, Cirko Norda have built a reputation for creating work that is technically impressive, socially relevant and genuinely moving. Their previous touring work has inspired audiences across the UK, and this new production raises the bar again.
