2023 in review
To give you flavour of what you might expect to see in 2024, we take a fond look back to just some of our shows of last year.
We had magic, dance, stand-up, an aerial act, live music, cabaret and some great theatre. All the things you might expect in a fringe festival set throughout the historic centre of Durham City.
Dance
We had a fabulous selection of dance and movement artists who brought a diverse range of performances.
Artists included Uncaged Aerial Theatre, The Muses, Erica Mulkern and Pelican Theatre who performed ‘Kindred’, exploring the joys and complexities of human connection, through dynamic and captivating physical theatre.
Drama and Musical Theatre
Audiences were spoiled for choice with a breath-taking range of dramatic performances to attend.
Toska presented by Sort Sol, Emma presented by Menstrual Rage Theatre Company, The Lucky Durham’s presented by Youth Connection Theatre Company, Screen 9 presented by Piccolo Theatre to name just a few. Whilst Tim Jasper presented a celebration of the work of Stephen Sondheim in two unique performances.
Magic
Renowned performers Paul Aitchison and Tom Bolton brought their very different but equally magical acts in 2022.
Comedy
The enjoyment of live performances with fun and laughter, whether that be as stand-up, comedy theatre or sketch shows is essential to every arts festival.
We are treated to outstanding performances from a rich and varied group of talented funny people including Aaron Simmonds, Richard Pulsforth, the Promising Middle Aged Women, Jake Donaldson and the hyperactive lot at Biscuit Barrel Comedy.
