The Department of Music
The venue is in the oldest part of the range of buildings that form Durham University’s Music Department and is their current performance hall. The building was founded as a grammar school in 1541, during Henry VIII’s Reformation, and rebuilt in 1661 during the Bishopric of John Cosin. For us its just a stunning and atmospheric stage, an end on performance space that is well resourced for lighting and sound. It seats 60 in the main auditorium and possibly another 25 on the gallery. We will preferentially load downstairs first.

Bar (outside performance space) YES

Notes for those with access needs

Wheelchair access is good through the main department door and into the venue. However both additional exits present challenges:
Exit door 1 from the space is 0.87m wide and has a small step down.
Exit door 2 is level, minor ramp, but only 0.67m wide as it doesn't open past 85/90 degrees.
